Looking over Haussmann’s renovation of Paris for my Urban Studies final.
He designed it so you can literally view and walk to any grand monument through any of the 12 radiating boulevards. You can see any monument from any one of these vantage points in the city. (This served as the inspiration to many other city reform movements, ie: Washington D.C.) He also installed 15,000 gas lamps, which contribute widely to the conception of Parisian nightlife we have today.
We have him to thank.
Ugh, can I just move here now? (broken French, crepes, dirty looks, and all?) :[
